Take a Tour of the GTS

SWANCC is a non-profit unit of local government that was established in 1988. There are twenty-three Northwest Cook County communities that are members of the SWANCC organization.

The Agency is dedicated in providing cost effective and environmentally-sound solid waste management services emphasizing waste reduction and recycling.

This 82,000 square-foot garbage processing facility is centrally located to the Region and opened to member communities on Febraury 1,1994.

All garbage is handled inside of the building and only collection vehicles that are registered with SWANCC may ‘tip’ or empty their loads.

Garbage is transported to Pheasant Run Landfill, owned and operated by Waste Management in Bristol, Wisconsin. Landcape waste is collected seperately and also taken to Pheasant Run Landfill to be composted.

On average, 270,000 tons of garbage is processed from member communities annually.

Due to staff constraints and liability concerns, tours are not provided. Please visit the transfer station during SWANCC's Annual Open House on the first Saturday after Memorial Day from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
