The Tipping Side of the GTS |

Garbage from SWANCC communities are identified and weighed by the scale room operator who then assigns the truck to empty the load in one of the three tipping bays. There are two scales built into the pavement outside the facility. One weighs the individual refuse trucks before entering the building and the second weighs the outbound transfer trailer trucks. Trucks empty their loads in as few as 8 minutes. A front end loader pushes the waste to the grapple for it to pick up the garbage and place in a semi trailer. It is important to note that many items seen through the observation window could have been recycled, reused or repaired. Unfortunately, once these items arrive at the Transfer Station, they will become baled and landfilled. So, think before you throw! LOOK UP! The insulated glass windows near the ceiling allow for natural sunlight. This is a cost-effective way to cut down on the need for enhanced lighting and saves energy. |
